Manifesto: Hi! I’m Adrian Kilgour, and I’m nominating myself for Vice President for Societies and Volunteering.
Improving communication at your student’s union is essential. I will achieve this by holding monthly meetings with your groups allowing me to directly address your concerns and suggestions, as well as feedback for big decisions. I will ensure all communication from Undeb Bangor remains transparent, accessible, and clear, so you always stay informed.
I want to increase the promotion of your hard work by highlighting society events and volunteering opportunities through university channels. Also, I will support groups in advertising, making it easier to reach a larger portion of the student body.
Engagement is very important. I will actively attend events and regular group sessions to help me understand and support your needs. I aim to ensure that all ideas and feedback are heard and acted upon.
I want to support growth and sustainability within societies and volunteering groups. I will negotiate for new groups to receive an initial budget to help them get started and aim to increase the percentage of Pontio ticket revenue given to societies. I will provide guidance and assistance with fundraising events.
Volunteering is an important part of our student’s union, and I want to create new opportunities that are sustainable and accessible. For example, I would like to introduce regular volunteering initiatives such as weekly litter picking around Bangor.
I will review grants each semester to ensure groups have sufficient resources throughout the year and redistribute unused funds, preventing resources from sitting unused.
Accessibility matters, so I will ensure that Undeb Bangor events, such as Serendipity and the Cultural Fair are more accessible, including improved wheelchair access. I will also focus on enhancing accessibility across university buildings.
I want to work with identity-based societies, to ensure they have the resources needed to remain individual, and are free to join.
Finally, I will regularly update the Undeb Bangor website with practical resources and clear guidelines to help societies and volunteering groups, and I will review and adjust the paid membership system based on your feedback, providing support where needed.
