VP Sport Manifesto:
Introduction: Hello everyone, I’m Max Duggins and I am running for VP of Sports. As a passionate advocate for university sports, I would be honoured to have the opportunity to develop our athletic body into a better supported, more inclusive and tighter-knit community. Drawing on my experience of being on committees and conversations provided to me by clubs and students, I have outlined my goals and ideas that I would love to be able to put into fruition with the help of your votes.
Key ideas & targets:
Fostering Equal opportunities & Club Recognition:
- Ensure fair treatment for all sports, involve every club at the university equally.
- Enhance club visibility, particularly on smaller/developing teams through promotion.
- Advocate for increased recognition of certain clubs as competitive sports, aiming to secure better coaching support and funding.
Improve Communication Efficiency:
- Implement regular checkups with teams to get a deeper understanding of what they require from the AU, also allowing any problems to be resolved swiftly.
- Look at streamlining the sign-up process on Undeb by including emergency contacts and medical details to make the club-side administration simpler.
Financial & Resource Support:
- Funding for BUCS and non-BUCS competitions, travel and overnight stays to be reviewed to assist where possible.
- Drive for a fair funding system, where it is aimed at club growth and development
- Explore sponsorship opportunities/fundraising initiatives to reduce financial pressure on clubs; as well as to aid in securing better game-day kit and coaching support for all clubs.
- Improve training and match-day facilities for all sports, ensuring access to venues at home, with each team having access to appropriate training grounds, gym and team equipment.
- Improve transport arrangements and lobby for subsidised travel for match days and training sessions to enhance accessibility for players.
Community and Individual Focuses:
- Offer better mental health and wellbeing support for students.
- Social events that encourage interactions spanning all sport societies.
- Work towards initiatives that keep sports affordable and accessible for all students.
- Review Varsity’s schedule to make it more engaging, propose a shuttle system and make the timetabling more available for spectators to attend.
