Manifesto: Who am I?
Hello, my name is Sam Taylor, I’m running for VP of Sport. I’m a 4th year MSci Marine Biology and Zoology student finishing my master's dissertation. I’ve been an active member of the Bangor Sports community, competing in BUCS in all four years of being in Bangor, representing UMCB against Aberystwyth, and being a consistent social netball player. I am the Club Captain of Men’s Rugby Union; this year, I have successfully completed my goals of improving the club's behaviour inside and outside the Undeb community and improving the overall perception of our players. I’ve enjoyed my time in the AU community and feel like this is my time to give back and share my expertise and experience to help others.
Promote player sponsorship to release financial pressure on students who want to compete and represent the University.
I wish to encourage and develop the individual fundraising efforts of teams to help them afford essential kit and other equipment. I will try and help by hosting events or sending emails to local businesses.
Try to work closely with Brailsford and campus sports to increase the number of activities. Whether you want to play sports to a competitive level or not, everyone should be able to partake.
I will try to aid in the attendance of sports events and clubs by encouraging individuals, particularly international students who don’t usually take part. This will hopefully reduce loneliness around campus. There is a sport for everyone at Bangor University!
At the start of the year, meet with club captains to set goals, but also continue with regular optional check-ins to track progress and any needed additional support. Such as aid in the growth of social media platforms and presence, which will help gain future sponsorship and recognition within the wider communities.
Bring together the sports committees so we can work together to educate and improve clubs' perceived public image by potentially organising events like after-school clubs led by students that the local community can use.
Making the Community Stronger
Thank you, Diolch,
Sam
