I've been getting feedback that some students are struggling to get to grips with some of the online software.

I propose we create student roles for course specific SME's (Subject Matter Experts), these experts would gain additional training on the software packages we use everyday, allowing them to support other students on their courses proactively and reactively.

Benefits to the students who volunteer for these roles would include;

  • BEA points which help to achieve the Bangor Employability Framework Award.
  • Additional IT expertise.
  • Provides additional content for CV. Holding roles with responsibility which require communication and collaboration with peers are looked at favourably by potential employers.

    Great idea, Richie. Another element of this could be to create example videos to show how to use some of the tech so people can watch it as well as reading any instructions. Perhaps there should also be a contact who has knowledge about accessibility requirements? For example, how to use the read back function or altering the size/colour/font within documents.

    Great ideas Bethany. If this gets traction we can work out the finer details and go firm on a plan of action.

    I think the study buddies could be utilised for this work, this would add to the weekly support they could offer
