No university, especially in 2023, should have a library which only opens from 12pm to 5pm on weekends. This is prime studying time for a lot of students, and only having Pontio open 24/7 (except on certain days you can't get into Pontio from the bottom entrances, which defeats the entire purpose of a 24/7 study area if you can only access it from a massively steep hill or an endless amount of stairs!) seriously narrows the availability of places to work in.
For this reason, Pontio is becoming extremely busy and far too loud for a "social study" area - how is anyone expected to get good results in their degree when there's young children running and playing while we try to do the degree we pay 9k+ a year for? Main Arts library needs to open at least around 9am on weekends, and Deiniol library should be reopened (if not already) and publicised as a study space to students.

It’s great this petition has been done, I think we need more than just longer weekend hours. The library only being open 08:30-18:00 on weekdays makes it completely inaccessible for certain students. Mature students like myself who have children and no choice but to work full time to support a family while studying are being left unable to take advantage of the universities resources. When I did my undergrad at Bangor the university was open all night, I often came back after putting the kids to bed to get a few hours work in and I was never the only person there, so other people were clearly making use of the space at all hours.
