After the International Court of Justice ruling that Israel's aggression can constitute a genocide, and everything we have seen in the news, many students are not wanting to support Israel, and one clear way is to look at what companies are on the BDS (boycott, divest, sanction) list. Dominoes is on that list for supplying free food to the Israeli millitary. Dominoes is also a sponsor of the students union. I understand that because the students union represents all students there is a limit on how much they are allowed to act in a way that may be politically divisive, which is why I brought up the ICJ ruling, plus there have been multiple student events in support of Palestine, so I believe that no longer having the sponsorship with Dominos will be supported by the student body. As I understand that Dominos is a useful sponsor as it means the students union events can be catered and many people do attend them for the free food, I encourage replacing the sponsorship, potentially with a local place as the local economy will benefit more from that.
This feedback was brought to the attention of the school of psychology and sport science druring a SSLiC, the senior course rep has added "According to a Fatwa, any product that is correlated with this genocide funding is haram, therefore making it so that the SU is inaccessible to a whole group of people or would call for them to protrude their religious decree. Needless to say, this is entirely unacceptable and a swift resolution is expected."
I personally would like to add that choosing to keep this sponsorship is a politically motivated decision that clearly does not align with the values of a sizable proportion of students. The students union also sells starbucks products but at least students can individually choose not to purchase those items, the Dominoes partnership does not give the students this choice.
